Designs submitted by communities
A major part of this project is getting ideas and input from the local communities. We asked people at several events
“What would you like to see as a bike rack rack in your community?”
Here are some of the submitted designs.
Sometimes the designs are just words and so we work with those ideas to produce a sketch that may become a new bike rack.
The Great Blue Heron is often seen along the Erie Canal and so this written idea was transferred into a design that will become a bike rack later this year,
These designs are then transferred to full size patterns and then we take them into the forge and start working on the individual components. Here is the almost completed great blue heron
Full size pattern for a “Three Sisters Planting” design.
And then we start forging individual pieces and lay them on the design. Here are several components including leaves and beans lying on the design.
Our forging process is highlighted under the “Process” tab
